  • In the general sense, a risk of danger, peril, or loss. In the legal system, jeopardy is defined as the risk faced by defendants when charged with an offense and faced with possible conviction and punishment. The Fifth Amendment protects individuals against double jeopardy, which means that no person can be tried twice, in the same court, for the same crime.
