Intrapersonal Communication
The internal processes that human beings use to communicate within themselves. Most individuals are familiar with interpersonal communication, which refers to communication between individuals. Intrapersonal communication refers to the internal factors that contribute to how individuals process information and how these processes lead to the development of attitudes, self-concepts, meanings of symbols, and memories.
A way to understand this concept is by comparing it with interpersonal communication. In interpersonal communication, an individual gives information (the sender) to another individual (the receiver). There is a constant interaction, both verbally and nonverbally, between the sender and the receiver. For intrapersonal communication, the individual both sends and receives the information within himself or herself.
