  • Research attempting to find a solution for a specific problem, in contrast to (pure) basic research, which is more concerned with the advancement of insight and knowledge itself. Usually, applied research involves an investigation of topics directly related to research issues that originate from practical experience (e.g., studying methods of enhancing the educational experience of children with mental retardation or performing an outcome evaluation to determine if a drug treatment program is effective). For more information, see Cozby (2004).
