  • A very broad discipline, basically understood as the study of the world or physical environment in which humans, animals, plants, and other living beings live. Geographers are interested in the earth's features and the manner in which life is apportioned. Considered a science, geography has also facilitated the integration of social sciences such as anthropology, sociology, and economics.

    There are two main divisions of geography. The first, known as physical geography, is traditionally recognized as a science of the earth that focuses on the study of the physical features found in the earth's spheres. Physical features found in the earth's spheres include land, water, climate, and plants. Physical geographers contribute to our knowledge of the earth's processes and identify strategies for preserving the earth's natural resources.
