A distinction is made between occupational and career models. Research is reviewed pertinent to both models. Many measures developed from career theory were found to be lacking construct as well as predictive validity. Still holding to a developmental theory of career patterns, greater emphasis is placed on the Self-concept as possible "mortar which binds the other (theoretical) units into a Solid Structure."
