Note: President Moussa Dadis Camara suffered a serious head wound in an assassination attempt by a presidential aide on December 3, 2009. Shortly thereafter, Camara sought medical treatment outside the country, and Defense Minister Sékouba Konaté, also a vice president of the National Council for Democracy and Development, was installed as acting president of the republic. Konaté urged negotiations with the opposition, and in January 2010 Jean-Marie Doré of the opposition Union for the Progress of Guinea was appointed prime minister, with the expectation that a new transitional cabinet would be named to oversee national elections and a return to civilian government later in the year. (Camara agreed to remain in exile at least until a civilian government was inaugurated.)
