The party of German Chancellor Angela Merkel won a decisive victory in parliamentary elections on September 22, 2013, giving Merkel a historic third term as Chancellor. The convincing electoral win for her center-right alliance of Christian Democrats was a sure sign that the voters approved of Merkel's handling of Germany and the EU's severe economic challenges.
