  • Located in western Idaho, approximately forty-one miles east of the Oregon state border and 110 miles to the north of the Nevada state line, the city of Boise is the state's capital and most populous city. It is situated on the Boise River and is the largest city between Salt Lake City, Utah, and Portland, Oregon. The city is approximately sixty-four square miles in size. In 2012 the population was about 205,671 and the surrounding metropolitan area nearly 616,561 citizens. Boise is the third most populous metropolitan area in the U.S. Pacific Northwest.
