  • John Fife Symington III (1945–) was both a businessperson and a politician who served as the nineteenth governor of the state of Arizona, as a Republican, from 1991 until his resignation in 1997. While his gubernatorial term saw some accomplishments, his resignation in disgrace marred his overall reputation.

    Symington was born in New York on August 12, 1945, but was raised in Maryland. He is from a wealthy family and the great-grandson of steel magnate Henry Clay Frick. He is married to the former Ann Olin Pritzlaff, an heiress of the Olin family, which founded the chemical company Olin Corporation. They have five children and four grandchildren.
