  • Seattle, Washington, is located in the northwest quadrant of the state of Washington, roughly 115 miles (185 kilometers) south of the Canadian border. The city, named after Chief Sealth of the Duwamish and Suquamish tribes, is situated between Puget Sound and Lake Washington. The city limits of Seattle cover 91.56 square miles (236.98 square kilometers), which includes 3.06 square miles (8.03 square kilometers) of water. The highest elevation in the city is 520 feet, with the lowest point registered at sea level. The 2010 Census lists the population of the city proper as 608,660, with a larger metropolitan population of 3.4 million.
