  • Pat Schroeder (1940–) is a Colorado lawyer, politician, and publishing executive. First elected to the House in 1972, Schroeder, a Democrat, served twelve terms as representative for Colorado's First Congressional District, retiring in 1997. An unapologetic liberal and advocate for women, children, and families, Schroeder was also an independent figure acutely attuned to the local interests of her Colorado constituents.

    Patricia Nell Scott was born July 30, 1940, in Portland, Oregon. In 1961, she graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota. She then earned a law degree from Harvard Law School in 1964, during which time she met and married classmate James Schroeder.
