    Nancy Pelosi (1940–) is a long-serving member of the U.S. House of Representatives from California's Eighth Congressional District, covering the city of San Francisco. She has become a major Democratic Party leader, and in November 2002, she became the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House. She served as minority leader from 2003 to 2007 and had previously served as House Democratic Whip for one year. After the Republicans took over the majority in the House in 2010, Pelosi again became minority leader for the 112th Congress.
