Kay Bailey Hutchison (1943–) served in the Texas House of Representatives from 1972 to 1976, served as Texas state treasurer from 1991 to 1993, and represented Texas in the U.S. Senate from 1993 to 2012. Hutchison was the first female senator from Texas.

Born Kathryn Ann Bailey Hutchison in Galveston, Texas, on July 11, 1943, Hutchison grew up in La Marque, Texas. She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas in 1962 and a law degree from the University of Texas School of Law in 1967. Hutchison worked for KPRC-TV as legal and political correspondent until 1972 and was the first female broadcast journalist in the state.
