  • Floyd Elgin Dominy (1909–2010) served as commissioner of the Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) from 1959 to 1969. During that time, he served Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Richard Nixon. Among the major projects completed by the BOR during his term as commissioner were the Flaming Gorge and Glen Canyon dams.

    Dominy was born on December 24, 1909, in Adams County, Nebraska. His undergraduate education was completed at the University of Wyoming, where he studied agriculture and economics. During World War II, he enlisted in the navy and saw action in the Pacific theater. In 1946, he joined the BOR. Although he was not an engineer, he rose quickly through the ranks.
