Abstract
This case looks at the political pressure recently exerted on the Chinese-owned viral social media app TikTok, which faced an uncertain future under threats of being banned by the Trump administration and bids from multiple major U.S. companies—including Walmart, Microsoft, and Oracle—to acquire it. Many are speculating on what’s in store for TikTok after it was announced in September that Oracle would be taking over stewardship of the app’s North American operations, with a small ownership stake in store for Walmart.
