Sustainability CoLab: Scaling Local Impact

Abstract

This case, based on real people, organizations and events, describes a critical decision point in the creation of an organization called Sustainably CoLab. Mike Morrice, the founder of a social enterprise called Sustainable Waterloo Region (SWR), is faced with the challenge of scaling his organization up and out. The case explores funding models for social enterprise, and the tensions between centralized and decentralized decision making.
