Craven County: In Pursuit of Sustainable Tourism

Abstract

This case focuses on the issue of how Craven County, North Carolina, a destination that has rich water and historical resources can plan, promote, and support sustainable tourism to attract tourists. Sustainable tourism initiatives seek to identify existing cultural and environmental assets for a destination and develop plans to effectively manage growth in the future. Information is presented regarding the perceptions held by tourism and hospitality stakeholders, concentrating on the issue of identifying strategic recommendations for Craven County destination managers to ensure that tourism products are developed in an economically, environmentally, and socially-conscious manner.
