When I first became disabled by an inner ear disorder two decades ago at the age of 21, my future career was not my immediate concern. I was just finishing up my junior year of college, was on the dean's list, had a part time job and was considering which archaeological dig I would embark on—the one to Mexico or the one to England? Living in New York City, I can say that was the last time I would think of such long distance travel for a long time to come.
