What are the research implications of workplace restructuring? As a transformation of workplace social structure, restructuring raises for researchers in the sociology of work questions about fundamental shifts in the distribution of authority in the firm, the depth of mutual commitment between employer and employee, and in the actors that bargain over the terms of employment. Restructuring also compels researchers to examine the consequences of these fundamental shifts for worker livelihoods and life chances.
The two chapters in this concluding section offer complementary research agendas.
