Working in Restructured Workplaces addresses contradictory influences in contemporary workplace restructuring, its impact on workers’ lives, and the direction and nature of future changes in the workplace. Reconfiguring Workplace Status Hierarchies
A key question that any student of workplace restructuring must ask is what is the impact of workplace reorganization on the equalities and inequalities of the workplace? The six chapters in this opening section consider a variety of ways in which workplace reconfiguration alters dimensions of workplace hierarchy, including differences in worker power, status, compensation, skill, and career trajectories and even differences in organizational status within firms. The perspectives and conclusions of the authors are quite varied and provide for a theoretically and empirically rich overview of a topic that is critical to understanding the implications of workplace restructuring.
