The primary goal for this chapter is to provide the reader with an introduction to, and an applied psychological knowledge of, the inter-connected areas of intelligence, learning styles and educational attainment. We will examine traditional views of intelligence, intelligence testing, and the debate as to whether intelligence (as measured by IQ tests) is more influenced by biological/ genetic factors or learning/environmental factors – the so-called nature versus nurture debate, which has been a controversial and often bitter argument in psychology and in education.
