19.1 The Instrument and its Administration
Assertiveness inventory is a self-administered instrument and contains 48 items, 16 items for each type of behaviour. A 5-point scale has been used. It is designed to assess the level of assertiveness, submissiveness and aggressiveness in a person. Although the instrument is self-administered and self-scored, the facilitator also can collect the instruments and score it for them. If administered in a group to construct a group profile, respondents should be explained that the instrument is to help them understand their existing behaviour and plan to enhance their effectiveness by reducing dysfunctional and increasing functional aspects. Scoring key should not be distributed to the respondents until they complete the instrument.
