30.1 The Instrument and its Administration
Leadership Profile Indicator (LPI) was formerly called Survey of Strategies of Problem Management (SSPM). It was first developed for health managers. Later, it was adapted for education and corporations. The instrument is based on the theory of situational leadership by Hersey and Blanchard (1982). The instrument consists of 12 situations, each posing a problem for action. Four alternatives are given for each situation, and the respondent is required to select one of them that he would use if he were the leader in that situation.
