The curriculum-driven approach that we have adopted in this book provides a framework for using media literacy education to teach core content and skills in specific content areas. Like reading and writing, media literacy can—and should—be integrated across the curriculum. As the US Department of Education (2010) puts it: “Whether the domain is English language arts, mathematics, sciences, social studies, history, art, or music, 21st-century competencies and expertise such as critical thinking, complex problem solving, collaboration, and multimedia communication should be woven into all content areas” (p. xi).
