The preceding chapters have woven an enthusiastic and positive scenario for the profession of nursing as we enter a new millennium. Yet, despite all our progress and promise, some basic challenges that have faced the profession for many years still need to be addressed if nursing as a profession is to realize its full potential. Although not new, these are enduring issues that the profession has been unwilling or unable to confront and resolve in any significant way.
