Innovators have the potential to make a difference in creating tomorrow's vision. Innovators are those who perceive change as a challenge and an opportunity (Kirton, 1976). One such challenge results from recognition of the contribution of genetics to health and illness. This recognition has progressed rapidly over the past 10 years as result of a centralized research focus, the Human Genome Project (Collins, 1997a). This federally funded basic research project has provided a wealth of scientific information, biotechnological capabilities, and a foundation of genetics data that expand possibilities to improve on options available for health care services.
