As the health care system becomes more complex, the consumer is faced with an increasing number of product choices and with these choices have come changes in primary health care perspectives. These developments involve increased dissemination of information through health care education materials and one-on-one nursing intervention about medications, activity, exercise, and nutrition.
By making choices about health care the consumer either moves forward on the continuum of being healthy, or if moving away from a healthy lifestyle, the consumer contributes to escalating health care costs while reducing his or her number of productive years.
