Planning Lessons Using a Research-Based Design
The literacy constructs described in Chapter 4 were incorporated into a 12-component instructional template that mainstream and ESL/ELD teachers piloted and continue to refine in the various iterations of ExC-ELL (Expediting Comprehension for English Language Learners) in different parts of the country. It was based on research and practice on second-language acquisition, reading comprehension, and writing skills development. Chapter 9 describes the parallel research on teacher efficacy, collective efficacy, and the professional development (PD) design.
