In many countries initiatives to provide appropriate education for gifted pupils exist (Eyre, 2004), but these may not be available to all pupils, or are perhaps restricted to activities that are not part of the school curriculum. Development of a gifted education policy is essential to ensure that pupils have opportunities to develop their abilities and skills to become the future intellectual, social, economic and cultural leaders.
