Biracial/mixed-race Americans are those whose parents are of different racial groups. People of mixed racial heritage are not a recent phenomenon. The purity of races is a myth. Biological and historical evidence points to the total inaccuracy of the idea of a pure race (Porterfield, 1978). Throughout human history, whenever there was contact between people of different racial groups, there was also sexual intermixing.
