Relationships among students in a class are the context for all school learning. When they are riven by conflict, it is not just the personal relationships that become casualties. Learning suffers as well. In this chapter, we shall discuss an approach to conflict resolution that does not focus on one particular relationship but instead addresses the whole nexus of relationships within a classroom. It uses a conversational format that rearranges the lines of force that feed a conflict within groups of students in a class and opens up the opportunity for peace-building work to occur. It is called circle time.
