Researching Configuration
In this volume, the configurational school is considered to be one of the options for synthesis in strategic management. What are the antecedents of this school? In this chapter we begin with a discussion of the work on configuration with some of the early research carried out by the management policy group at McGill University. We follow this with discussion of the work of Danny Miller, the first person to receive his doctorate from that group, who has been particularly prolific in the configuration school. We then turn to a review of other research of this nature.
