Overview
In this chapter, I consider the gradual expansion of services and support for parents in England from the early 1990s until 2010. I describe some of the research which made clear the impact of parenting on outcomes for children and hence was influential in this expansion and also the different policy areas involved in this work. I discuss the issue of quality standards for parenting programmes, together with the kinds of training and support that have been shown to provide the most effective services.
