This chapter identifies key issues and debates in gender and physical education (PE), and how these have influenced policy and practice over the past three decades. We have structured the chapter into three key sections: equal opportunities and access; femininities, masculinities and sexualities; and bodies, identities and difference. Although these sections are not contained within specific time frames, they do reflect shifts in emphasis and understanding about gender relations over this period of time.
