The focus of this chapter is on organizational change and linkages among a system of outcomes. In our prior discussions on change (Chapter 5), we examined why successful changes at some levels are not evident at other levels. The productivity paradox marked that discussion. In that analysis, we tended to focus on one outcome (e.g., productivity) at a time. We moved, then, to an analysis of system-wide changes at the plant level and at the plant-corporate levels.
