Dueling Discourses: Desexualization versus Eroticism in the Corporate Framing of Female Sexuality in the British Airline Industry, 1945–1960
This chapter examines the role of corporate image making and the social construction of gender in the British airline industry over the period 1945 to 1960. Using a feminist postmodernist analysis (Ferguson, 1984), the chapter traces the development of gendered imagery over time in two airlines, the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) and British European Airways (BEA), predecessors of British Airways (B A).
