Einstein famously defined insanity as doing the same thing yet expecting different results. If he is right, then we cannot solve equality problems by using the kind of thinking we have used so far. We need to think differently and persist in the face of the likely resistance. Those who are advantaged by the current system have a vested interest in opposing change. Leaders and teachers may be amongst these if, for example, they work in ‘good’ schools or prefer delivering an academic curriculum to compliant learners. However, in opposition to such resistance are very many committed and dedicated staff, determined to do what they can to make education fairer.
