    Dedication

    This book is dedicated to my three beautiful daughters—Lauren, Lisa, and Dana—for their unconditional love, for providing me with the joy of parenting, and for teaching me firsthand how children learn, flourish, and grow.     About the Author

    Nancy L. Cappelloni, EdD, is an educational consultant and adjunct professor in the Teacher Education Department in the University of San Francisco's School of Education. She has taught kindergarten and early childhood education for the past twenty years. Dr. Cappelloni consults privately with families and their young children, helping them navigate through the processes of readiness for and the transition to kindergarten. She also works with elementary-age children experiencing a wide range of learning challenges. Dr. Cappelloni works collaboratively with the child's family, school, and other specialists to create an integrative intervention system and partnership to optimize the child's social and academic success in school.

    Dr. Cappelloni is a member of the board of directors in the California Kindergarten Association (CKA) and serves on the Transitional Kindergarten Task Force. She is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the California Association for the Education of Young Children (CAEYC), the International Reading Association (IRA), Phi Delta Kappa International (PDK), the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD), and the American Educational Research Association (AERA).

    Dr. Cappelloni holds a doctorate in education, a California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential/Cross-Cultural Language and Academic Development (CLAD) certificate, and a California Early Childhood Education Administrative Credential. She conducts numerous professional development workshops for early childhood educators and primary school teaching staff on topics including kindergarten readiness, readiness assessments, emergent literacy, and self-regulated learning. Additionally, Dr. Cappelloni presents family workshops on kindergarten readiness and directs kindergarten readiness programs throughout the year.

    Dr. Cappelloni coauthored Corwin's The New Elementary Teacher's Handbook (3rd edition, 2011) and is the author of two cookbooks, Ethnic Cooking the Microwave Way (1994) and Cranberry Cooking for All Seasons (2002).
