Sport funding refers specifically to how sport organizations seek and receive funds to support their operations such as fundraising, government grants, sponsorship and voluntary sector trusts. Sport finance is a larger body of literature and subject area that covers a wide range of financial issues related to sport, such as investment, financial statement analysis and performance measurement.
We combine the terms ‘funding’ and ‘finance’ in this concept because the literature related to this area uses both terms. The concepts have been used interchangeably but can also be differentiated in the same way we have done with the above definitions.
