The autumn political conference season usually kicks off with the Trades Union Congress (TUC) in the first half of September, though the conferences of the smaller parties including the Green Party, Plaid Cymru and the SNP are often around the same time. The Liberal Democrat Party conference is usually in mid-September. The Labour Party is traditionally the last week of September, and the Conservatives in the first week of October.

While the LibDems have a wider range of venues, only Brighton, Bournemouth and Blackpool have traditionally had the combination of a large enough conference space and sufficient off-peak hotel space to suit Labour and the Conservatives.
