Childhood may seem a fairly unambiguous, or straight-forward and simple enough, concept to be discussing. Childhood for many people simply refers to a period in our lives (usually between 5 to 14 years), which is infused with images of innocence and naivety. In addition to these emotional associations, childhood can also be seen as a time of risk and danger, where fragile bodies can come to harm falling off bicycles or tripping in playgrounds and where that innocence and naivety can lead to dangerous and unsafe encounters with deviant members of the adult world.
