For most people, health is about what you eat and how much exercise you take, and if something goes wrong there's always the medical profession there to patch you up and get you back to what you were doing previously. Health Studies seeks to go beyond this narrow perception of health. Health Studies is animated by an understanding that health is much more than ‘blood and bones’, or only intelligible through the workings and ideas of mainstream medicine. The idea of ‘health’ emerges out of an array of diverse social processes and influences, many of these processes operating at levels beyond the physical body with which we experience life in all its states, good or bad.
