Introduction
The focus of this chapter is, firstly, to describe the historical context of anti-discriminatory practice and, secondly, to discuss the range of strategies that have been adopted over the years to deal with it. According to Dominelli (2004), the commitment to anti-oppressive, hence anti-discriminatory practice, has a long history in the social work profession. In her view, anti-discriminatory practice is thought of as being of equal importance alongside the knowledge that social workers are expected to acquire and the skills that are required for the task of social work.
