The approach will be to describe the processing of cases through the modern juvenile court system, comparing and contrasting these practices with the adult criminal justice system. Keep in mind that there remains significant variation among states and localities. What is presented below is an attempt to capture the present reality in the largest number of juvenile court jurisdictions.
