Leaving school in 1959 meant that my whole life was about to change. Born with cerebral palsy, I live in a body with limbs that are difficult to control. My speech is a little slurred. Yet I think like and have the same ambitions and dreams as an able-bodied person. It is very frustrating not to be accepted as such by society.

My social life began to be busy. I was in the Land Rangers and the senior section of the Girl Guides. I enjoyed discovering how to help other people and learning to serve the community.
