I will begin with the four principles that I have interwoven throughout my discussions about leadership in this book. Each of these principles can be applied to understanding individual-, team-, and organizational-level leadership.

The first principle pertains to managing one's vulnerability:135

Principle 1: The most exemplary leaders, teams, and organizations are balanced in how they manage their vulnerabilities. Vulnerabilities are embraced, understood, dealt with, and certainly not avoided.
