Introduction

Before exploring how an environmental accounting framework can be tested and how insights gained from certain case studies may be used, this chapter details the constructs needed to model the monetization of externalities. The modelling exercise contributes to build how externalities can be evaluated as social liabilities while appreciating limitations (explored previously) that have been a lexicon in environmental accounting theories. However, all that the valuation models achieve is to bring a certain degree of objectivity to the scientific and calculative aspects of the evaluation process.
