Sheila H. Akabas (1931–)
American Professor of Social Work Focusing on Employment Issues and Disability Policy
Sheila (“Shelley”) H. Akabas was born Sheila Epstein in 1931. She married Aaron Akabas in the mid-1950s. Akabas attended Cornell University, earning a bachelor of science degree in 1951. She pursued graduate studies at New York University, earning a master's degree in business administration in 1956 and a Ph.D. in economics in 1970.
