Organizational Implications of Diversity in Higher Education
The issue of diversity in our society is one of the most widely discussed topics today. The amount of attention to it is related to a number of factors, including the changing demographic characteristics of the society, in which 85% of the new entrants to the domestic workforce will be minorities, women, and immigrants; insufficient progress in responding to these changes; and the growing occurrence of incidents of intolerance (Fernandez, 1991; Smith, 1989). All of these reasons suggest the need for change in organizational practices. How fundamental the change needs to be and what it suggests for society in general are the topic of much analysis and debate (Copeland, 1988; Fernandez, ...
