In this chapter, I review culture-centered views of psychotherapy and counseling, exploring the implications of a cultural view of psychological practice. I discuss issues in the field, in particular the two topics of psychotherapy integration and evidence-based practice. In addition to considering a broadly conceived cultural perspective as a meta-level understanding about psychological practice, developmental integration at the personal level is emphasized, to be illustrated by the chapters that follow. I suggest how students and practitioners in training can reflect on their own integrative understanding of psychotherapy and counseling.
